Has anyone tried renaming the file first and then deleting it?

Frename(...)
FErase(...)

This would solve that problem.

we've always deleted an index file before re-creating an index...

I guess almost everybody does this. But there's no error in deleting files; this works. The error is in retrieving the file information immediately after it was deleted.

As far as I know, the problem only occurs on local drives. We only have very, very few customers sharing tables on local drives.
