Mods to be added

there are tons of "Mods" (modifications) to the phpBB-board, which can be added. We may collect a list of needed mods here. There are modifications which change the behaviour of the board completely, others just add simple functionalities like the number of new posts since the last visit at the "view new posts"-link.

Besides this, I would suggest to add:

- some language packages (german, dutch, french?)
- the "subsilver2"-theme, which is more convenient than the prosilver theme
- more smilies
- avatars (user pics) to be allowed
- private messages to be allowed

How about a mod that makes that checkbox "log me in automatically on each visit" ,actually work!!

nope..

But i'll go into my cookie manager and delete all the cookies for donnay-software.com.. sometimes with sub-domains, firefox screws up cookie matches..

I am interested in the below "Global Announcements" mod, however I see nothing about how to install it.
The zip file contains a few XML files and an XSL file.
Could you point me in the right direction?
I don't want to do anything that will bring down the system.

Hi, Roger.

The "Global Announcements Mod" is something we use at the German Xbase Forum, and as I remember (I did this about 16 month ago), it was not that difficult. There should be a file "INSTALL.XML", which leads you through the installation process. First, there is some work at the database to be done (from the MySQL-Admin, if MySQL is used, for instance) - just copy, paste and run the statement. After that, you have to copy several files to the phpBB-installation and edit some others afterwards. The XML shows which files to edit. You see "Find", which means: Find this line of code in the original file. After that, you edit/modify the code as instructed. As far is I know, there is still no "EasyMod"-software available for phpBB 3, which we had for version 2.

It is very important to clear the board cache after the installation process (on the first page of the Admin Control Panel). Besides, this should be done after all modifications/installations which effect the board layout and/or structure.

Edit: You are allowed to remove the phpBB-logo from the "overall_header.php", if you want. All you have to keep inside are the copyright-notes at the bottom (overall_footer.php).
