Multi-edit and windows 7

I've come across this problem at least once before, but it's been about 3 years, and i don't remember the damned answer..

Using multi-edit, and compiling internally, the xbase messages/warnings are not displaying properly in the bottom window. they are displaying as if in a debug window about 20 characters wide...

I do remember it was a simple fix, just don't remember what it is..
