file date and re-indexing

In our software, we check the file date directory()[3] on a specific file. I noticed today when i re-indexed on my development machine from within o9ur software, the file date/time changed to today/now. On some other machines, the file date did not change when we ran the same re-index.... All machines are running windows 7 professional....

Has anyone else come across this ??
